Sometimes what you need is not a build. It is someone technical, with no stake in the answer, to tell you whether the quote in front of you is reasonable, whether the platform you are being sold will still suit you in three years, and what the thing you have been told is simple actually involves.
What I am usually asked
Should we build this or buy it. Is this quote fair. Can our current system do what we need, or are we paying to keep something alive that has already failed. What do we do about the developer who has stopped answering. Is our data where we think it is.
Why an independent view helps
A vendor’s recommendation is shaped by what they sell. I run a one-person practice and I have led engineering as Head of ICT and Engineering, so I have sat on both sides of that table: buying software and being the one delivering it.
How it works
A conversation, a look at what you have, and a short written recommendation you can act on or hand to a board. If the answer is that you do not need to spend the money, that is the answer you get.
